Processing Assistant
Arthur and Elizabeth Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America
Three-month full-time (35 hours per week), with potential for extension at 15 hours a week following the three-month period.
The Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America seeks a Processing Assistant to work on a large (130 LF) and complex collection of 19th and 2th century family papers. Work includes acquiring intellectual control over the collection, completing basic preservation tasks for fragile materials, and creating an EAD finding aid from legacy inventories. Following the completion of this project, the Processing Assistant may be asked to take on other work to support general processing activities.
Qualifications:
Completion of LIS 438 and 440 or similar introductory archives coursework
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
Sensitivity to proper care and handling of special collections
Familiarity with EAD
Experience with XMetal or another XML editor
Knowledge of DACS
Ability to lift boxes up to 40 pounds on a regular basis
Knowledge of late 19th century and early 20th century American social history helpful
Prior experience processing archival collections preferred
Salary: $14.50/hr
