Interlibrary Loan Supervisor (Temporary), Boston MA

BiblioTemps®, a short-term staffing service of the Massachusetts Library System, is seeking candidates for a temporary Interlibrary Loan Supervisor for one of our academic library clients in the Boston area. This position will begin as soon as possible and continue through the end of May. 

 

Schedule: Full-time (35 hours per week). 

Preferred hours are Monday through Friday 1-9pm, though schedule is open to negotiation.

 

Job Title Summary: Reporting to the Head of Access Services this position serves as the library’s primary liaison for all interlibrary loan services to on- and off- campus students, faculty and staff. Includes all phases of the ILL process. Interlibrary Loan involves research, request, receipt, distribution, and statistical record keeping and reporting; automated aspects of this process use OCLC/ILLiad. Consults with branch library staff on their ILL needs and operations. Works with other members of the Access Services Team to cooperatively manage and run all department services.

 

Essential Functions:   

  • Provides leadership in the management and execution of interlibrary loan services to the university community, providing information, training, and customer service
  • Hires and supervises student assistants in interlibrary loan and document delivery.
  • Ensures compliance with copyright law, obtaining clearance when necessary and managing policies and documentation.
  • Serves as liaison with the university community, other libraries and vendors in matters pertaining to interlibrary loan and document delivery.
  • Prepares reports and statistical data to monitor budgeted expenses and usage.
  • Creates and maintains documentation of policies and procedures for internal and external use.
  • Responsible for technology upgrades and manages ILLiad software.
  • Participates in performing the full range of functions at the Access Services Desk, including supervising student assistants and providing first level reference service in the absence of a Reference Librarian.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of using ILLiad experience is required.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, commitment to high quality public services, supervisory experience, attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines are required.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, setting priorities and balancing daily workflow with ongoing special projects; ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others required.
  • Familiarity with OCLC, Endeavor Voyager, consortia, online database searching, word processing, spreadsheet software and adobe Acrobat software preferred.
