Consultant Services Positions – Preparing Paper Files for Digital Scanning

The Environment Department, City of Boston, is seeking consultant services to prepare Boston Landmarks Commission paper files for digital scanning. It is anticipated that more than one consultant will be needed for part-time (15-20 hrs./wk.) or full-time positions (35 hrs./wk. beginning as soon as possible and ending June 30, 2014. The pay will be hourly.
Description of Services: The work includes organizing paper files that contain documentation for review/approval of projects and/or documentation of Landmark designation materials. The scope of work includes grouping materials together for applications and designations in a consistent sequence, as instructed. Consultants will remove duplicates and materials that are not required to be scanned, remove fasteners, identify and notate materials to be grouped together as needed to instruct the scanners. The work requires handling letters, plans, images, maps and other various types of materials in the files.
Supervision: Supervision will be provided by staff of the Boston Landmarks Commission, especially to initiate the work according to samples provided, and to answer questions that arise. Consultants must be able to work independently on a daily basis.
Skills and experience: Consultants may be students in archives management or library science at the undergraduate or graduate level, or graduates of such programs.
