The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida, will be offering five paid internships for ten weeks from June 2 – August 8, 2014 (the theater internships run June 9 – August 2). The Ringling is the State Art Museum of Florida and a part of Florida State University. It consists of art and circus museums, as well as a historic mansion and theater, all on a 66-acre site overlooking Sarasota Bay.
Summer internships combine practical, hands-on experience working on a project for a specific department with exposure to all aspects of the Ringling’s operation.
Deadline for application is March 3, 2014.
Responsibilities: Participate in research on the Ringling’s first director, Arthur Everett “Chick” Austin, and his book collection; assist in the preparation of a public program on Austin’s book collection; assist with other public programs; assist with reference and digitization.
Qualifications: Bachelors degree in art history or related field; current enrollment in an ALA-accredited MLS program with an interest in special and/or research libraries.
The internship pays $11.25 per hour (less taxes). The intern is responsible for their own housing (the Museum will assist with locating nearby rentals).
