Temporary Learning Commons Desk Supervisor, Academic Library, Pioneer Valley MA

BiblioTemps®, a short-term staffing service of the Massachusetts Library System, is seeking candidates for a temporary Learning Commons Desk Supervisor for one of our academic library clients in the Pioneer Valley. This part-time position (15 hours per week) will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing service activities, including library, information, and technical support. 

 

Schedule:

There are two positions available, with the following schedules:

  • Position 1: Friday and Saturday 1:15-9:15pm
  • Position 2: Saturday 8:45am-4:45pm, Sunday 10:45am-6:45pm

 

These temporary positions will begin as soon as possible and continue through June 30, 2014.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide information regarding services provided at the library, in the learning commons, and on campus from service desks in the commons and while roving.  Use a high degree of independent judgment in responding thoroughly and accurately to questions arriving in person, by phone, and online. 
  • Provide basic hardware and software technology support. Assist users in the effective use of scanners, readers, printers, copiers, campus card stations, and other hardware devices.
  • Supervise and assist student employees to give quality service to patrons.
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment in the learning commons.
  • Collaborate with all student and regular staff of the learning commons desk, which includes non-library staff.
  • Assist in collecting usage statistics for monthly reports as needed.

 

 

Qualifications:  

  • Considerable customer service experience is required along with a high ability to interact with technology and equipment.
    • Ability to interact with the public graciously and tactfully.
    • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
    • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
    • Demonstrated experience with the use of computers and software; ability to adapt to PCs and Macs.
    • Experience using email, word processing, spreadsheet, and web-based software applications.
      • Working knowledge of methods, materials, technologies and equipment used in libraries and computer labs
      • Strong customer service focus.
      • Ability to explain technologies software applications to others.
      • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
      • Supervisory experience, with ability to schedule and train student staff.
