Information Services Associate, Regis College, Weston MA

GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

Under general direction of the Library Director, the Information Services Associate is responsible for assisting library patrons and the library staff in a variety of tasks.  He/she will serve as a resource for patrons, facilitating access to library services and programs.  The Information Services Specialist enforces library policies, resolves problems, and handles complaints accordingly.  In addition s/he will help library staff  process course reserves, maintain ILS records, process consortium requests, provide student employment training, create student employment schedules, and supervise student employees. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  •          Handle a wide variety of patron questions; refer to appropriate library or campus service areas as needed.

  •          Assist in the operations of overall library services, including Circulation Desk and Reference Area.

 

  •          Assist patrons with use of computers, library copiers, scanners, microform printers, and other library equipment. 

  •          Use online library systems to circulate library and reserve materials, register new patrons, update and maintain confidentiality of patron records.

 

  •          Sort and shelve library materials, search for missing items, shelf-read, do floor-pickups, shift stacks, and process library materials.

 

  •          Provide clerical support to process overdue notices, etc.

 

  •          Serve as a back up at the Reference Desk, when needed.

 

  •          Open and close the library, when needed.

 

  •          Other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:

 

Bachelor’s degree required

Minimum of one year of experience in a Library or enrolled in library degree program.

Customer Service experience required

 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work independently as well as collegially in a team environment and within a diverse community.

Ability to pay attention to detail and perform multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Circulation experience

Supervisory experience and training skills desirable

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

 

May supervise student workers

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

Ability to lift up to 35 pounds
Ability to change toner and add paper in public copiers and printers
