Boston College Libraries is seeking a Reference Information Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for a currently enrolled library and information science graduate student to apply their excellent customer service skills and library knowledge to a reference services department with a reputation for high standards.
Responsibilities
Provides outstanding service to library patrons through direct client assistance and individual consultations. Answers library information and research questions at the O’Neill Library reference desk and via virtual reference services. Types of service provided include database and research tool selection, ready reference, basic technology support, directional assistance, and referral. Works on special projects as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
- Excellent customer service skills.
- An understanding of information organization, research practices, library research databases, and library support services.
- Enrollment in a MLIS/MLS program
Preferred: Completion of reference coursework.
Hours and Rate
We will be filling four evening shifts Monday-Thursday from 4pm to 8pm through the end of the Spring academic semester, ending May 17. Please indicate your time/day availability in your letter; full coverage may necessitate more than one hire. Pay is $16.00/hr.
