ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned:
Library Associate I:
1. Interacts effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds to ensure appropriate use of community space and to assist with their information needs.
2. Utilizes social networking and technology tools for library and patron communications.
3. Creates, selects, edits and delivers web content to niche markets using social media tools.
4. Applies effective time management skills for coordination of individual and team projects and daily priorities.
5. Proactively and effectively addresses negative patron behaviors, through interaction with the patron and/or filing of appropriate documentation.
6. Utilizes effective customer service skills to address patrons’ needs, whether in person, by phone, e-mail, chat, or other interaction.
7. Complies with state law and library policy regarding confidentiality of library resources.
8. Interprets library procedures to address situations based on employee’s best judgment, and makes recommendations for modifications to procedure as necessary.
9. Assists with basic troubleshooting of computers and applies new technology for library services.
10. Collects statistics, maintains records and completes reports.
11. Plans and presents programs in coordination with Outreach Services Coordinator, including story times, school visits, tours and other special programs.
Library Associate II:
1. Project Management of adult or youth programming as assigned.
2. Researches, recommends, and implements social networking services as assigned.
3. Promotes library services with a focus on adult or youth patrons as assigned.
4. Researches, implements, and evaluates online library resources as assigned.
Branches:
1. Utilizes proactive and effective communication with the library partners
Circulation/Technical Services, Branches & Public Services:
1. Analyzes patron inquiries and develops search strategies to provide information and/or materials; explains the purpose of and assists in the use of the catalog, index tools and other resources for information and research; acts as a readers’ advisor.
2. Under direct supervision, develops and maintains collections in assigned areas.
3. Builds and maintains displays.
4. Maintains a welcoming and well-kept public space.
5. Uses integrated library system to effectively manage all library collections.
Circulation/Technical Services:
1. Coordinates the interlibrary loan activity..
2. Performs acquisitions, processing and cataloging utilizing relevant library databases and software.
Outreach:
1. Effectively represents and promotes the library when interacting with the public at programs and events.
Publications:
1. Uses graphic design skills and tools to compile, edit and publish (print and online formats) public relations information for the Library.
2. Uses web design skills to build and update library websites.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience: Library Associate I: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college. Two years of experience in related library setting preferred. Library Associate II: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college and three years related experience at the Library Associate I or equivalent level.
Communication Skills: Ability to critically select, create, and edit online content. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer and Administrative Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of online research, social networking resources, mobile devices, Microsoft Office products and other software and hardware relevant to the position. Publications: experience with graphic design software and web design.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and
occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work schedule is based rotating shifts, 7 days per week, daytime and evenings, at any of the library facilities.
