Position Type: Non-Profit Library Science Internship in Cambridge, MA
Do you want to work with an innovative nonprofit doing some of the most exciting educational, health care, and capacity-building work in the country? If so, the Right Question Institute, a small non-profit in Cambridge, MA, is looking for a library sciences intern for the 2014 spring semester, eager to work hard, learn a lot, and contribute to our efforts.
The mission of the Right Question Institute (RQI) is to disseminate an innovative educational strategy that builds the capacity of all people, particularly those from low-income communities, to advocate for themselves and participate more effectively in decision-making processes that affect them. RQI works towards a vision of Microdemocracy – where the millions of encounters low-income people have each year with public agencies are used as opportunities to build core skills that are essential for self-advocacy and democratic participation.
A library sciences intern will help us to create an information storage and retrieval strategy that will include multimedia examples of items relevant to the work of RQI in various fields (education, healthcare, parent engagement, voter engagement, etc.). This intern’s archival work will directly inform the content of a book exploring RQI’s work in Microdemocracy.
Requirements (Essential):
- Organized and self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team
- Computer expertise (Google Suite, PowerPoint, Excel, Word and comfortable with new applications)
- Interest in and knowledge of systems/strategies for collection and organization of data from a wide range of sources.
Additional skills or experience:
- Independent research skills to take on short and long-term projects
- Office and program support skills (organization, documentation, general support)
Funding: RQI is a non-profit with limited funding and all positions are work-study-eligible. Please indicate in your application if you have work-study funding. Hourly rate ranges from $10-20/hr, depending on experience. Interns work a minimum of 6 and up to 15 hours per week.
Instructions: Please submit to [email protected] 1) your resume and 2) a brief cover letter, referencing your interest in the position and an example of how your prior experience will be helpful in the position’s role. Please indicate your position of interest in the email subject heading.
