Library Associate: Oral History Project, Massasoit Community College, Brockton MA

This is a para-professional position which provides support to the Oral History project. The successful candidate will: review oral recording to identify speakers; review notes for names of speakers, places, and terminology for spellings; prepare word-for-word transcripts of oral recording for archives; edit digital interview; edit transcriptions for typographical errors and as requested by interviewer, interviewee; prepare oral recording for web; maintain web page for the Oral History Project; assist in maintenance of archival copies of documents; provide copies of transcripts to appropriate parties; and perform related work as required.

Requirements:
Minimum of Associate’s degree; ability to communicate effectively; ability to follow written and oral instructions; experience in transcribing oral to written word; should possess detail oriented skills to provide a mistake-free transcript, good listening skills to provide an accurate account of the interview and good writing skills to complete a readable document with correct punctuation; familiarity with proper English language usage, vocabulary and grammar; routine clerical office skills, such as filing, record keeping, and keyboarding; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and of publishing programs such as Adobe Photoshop; ability to maintain confidentiality of interviews, interview subjects, and content. Training in transcription of the written word through secretarial or administrative assistant courses is desired; digital editing experience; court reporter training or medical training in transcription is also accepted; web page development experience is desired.

Additional Information:
Hours: Monday – Thursday: 9:00 am – 1:30 pm, 18 hrs a week

Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour; without benefits
