Knowledge Management Assistant – TSU Temp, Pathfinder International, Watertown MA

Pathfinder International is a global leader in sexual and reproductive health. We place reproductive health care at the center of all that we do–believing that it is not only a fundamental human right, but is critical for expanding life opportunities for women, families, communities, and nations, and paving the way for transformations in environmental stewardship, decreases in population pressures, and innovations in poverty reduction. Pathfinder provides women, men, and adolescents with a range of quality health services–from contraception and maternal care to HIV prevention and AIDS care and treatment. Pathfinder strives to strengthen access to family planning, ensure availability of safe abortion services and post-abortion care, advocate for sound reproductive health policies, and, through all of our work, improve the rights and lives of the people we serve.

Position Purpose

Pathfinder currently has a small library and archive holding, relating to all matters in the public health and sexual and reproductive health sphere. Along with the library holdings, a SharePoint-based intranet houses an institutional knowledge repository that will contain all the resources in the Pathfinder library, as well as provide access to the e-journals Pathfinder subscribes to, institutional knowledge across departments, and Technical Assistance Libraries on Pathfinder’s key technical areas (e.g., HIV and AIDS, contraception, abortion).

Beyond the traditional library and archive, Pathfinder is prioritizing knowledge sharing initiatives such as communities of practice, journal clubs, and fail fairs. The development of a knowledge management toolkit is also a priority so that country offices can institute knowledge management practices in line with, and in support of, headquarters knowledge management activities.

Key Responsibilities

Facilitate the institutionalization of the knowledge management strategy by:
• Cataloguing library and archive materials following Pathfinder cataloguing standards.
• Work with country office staff to capture technical materials in the institutional repository.
• Coordinating community of practice virtual meetings, journal clubs, and fail fairs.
• Providing reference and research support to Pathfinder staff, including the compilation of monthly technical area updates.
• Assist the Knowledge Management Advisor with the Knowledge Management Toolkit project, the Technical Staff Yellowpages project, and the Proposal Content project.
• Other duties related to knowledge management on as-needed basis.
• Position duties may evolve over time.

Basic Requirements
• Experience with archives, archival practices, and archival description.
• Experience providing library reference services.
• Excellent attention to detail, research skills, communication and inter-personal skills.
• Organized, self-motivated, and flexible.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with SharePoint highly desirable.
• Exposure to content management systems preferred.
• Knowledge of public health literature, particularly sexual and reproductive health, beneficial.
