Library Assistant, Stevens Memorial Library, North Andover MA

The Stevens Memorial Library in North Andover is accepting applications for a part-time Library Assistant. The Library is located at 345 Main St., North Andover, MA and is a member of the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium (MVLC).

The position is 19.0 hours per week and requires working at least one evening per week (Monday through Thursday) and a regularly scheduled weekend (both Saturday and Sunday) in a set rotation from Labor Day to Memorial Day.

Duties: The position is responsible for performing routine public service duties at a Circulation Desk using an
automated integrated library software system to check in and out materials, maintain patron database records, search for materials, and support the interlibrary loan process; to shelve and locate materials within the Library; to answer the telephone; and other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: High school diploma required, bachelor’s degree preferred. Public library circulation experience
using automated integrated library system program desirable. Candidate must have strong computer and technology skills; exceptional customer service skills; able to deal tactfully and effectively with the general public; able to articulate clearly and apply consistently both Library and Network Consortium policies; strong organization skills and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; a high degree of flexibility and collaborative team skills essential; good language skills.

Physical Requirements: Performs duties under typical library conditions. Position requires frequent physical
effort, such as carrying books (up to 20-30 lbs), pushing book carts (up to 150 lbs), bending, stretching, grasping, etc. to shelve library materials. May require standing at counter-high desk for long periods of time. Able to view computer screens for extended time periods and able to operate computers, telephones, photocopiers, and other office-type equipment.

Salary grade minimum $14.87 – Salary grade maximum $18.65 per hour (Level S-5)
