Research Internship Positions Available at the Tufts South Asia Digital Humanities Lab: 10 hours/week over the course of remaining fall semester 2013 and spring semester 2014.

Tasks:
– The intern will work closely with the Tufts South Asia Digital Humanities Lab and Tufts Technology Services and will liaise with Tufts Digital Collection and Archives to perform timeline synchronization for multimedia files; build the name and concept thesaurus; coordinate with GIS staff to obtain GIS data; associate names, concepts, and GIS data with the multimedia files; create administrative, descriptive, and preservation metadata for all interviews; create the necessary derivatives for all interview objects; and prepare the component parts ingest into the Tufts Digital Library. The intern will also determine what other unique data need to be collected as part of the project; obtain, describe, and create appropriate manifestations of said data; and prepare said data for ingest into the Tufts Digital Library. The intern will also develop all necessary specification documentation.
Qualifications:
1. Years of related experience required: 0
2. Required education: Bachelor’s. Should be student in MLS or related degree program, or have equivalent experience.
3. Special licenses required: N/A
4. Required computer/technical skills: Comfort with file formats. Comfort with standard office software (e.g. word processors, spreadsheets). Demonstrated ability to learn new tools quickly.
5. Preferred: Knowledge of preservation standards. Experience with cataloging unique objects. Understanding of GIS data. Knowledge of Bengali or Urdu is not necessary but would be valuable.
Compensation: $16/hour. Work can be done from satellite location.
