The Advanced Abstractor, non-English is responsible for writing abstracts and assigning appropriate database and thesaurus headings based on non-English content as well as supporting the quality auditors in their processing of non-English content. The person in this position is expected to produce specified volumes and maintain acceptable quality of work to meet the demands of the job.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Writes accurate abstracts–in English and/or the non-English language of a specified journal–of articles assigned (articles cover a wide range of subject areas and vary in complexity from general interest to highly technical)
* Assigns subject headings to abstracts
* Suggests and creates new subject headings as needed
* Proofreads own work to ensure accuracy of all names, facts, spelling, grammar, etc., while also checking the accuracy of subject heading assignments
* Participates in peer review of non-English content processed by the team, to establish consistent content understanding and application of A&I rules
* Proofreads and provides feedback for vendor work in support of vendor training and quality auditing
* Conforms to standards of abstracting established by EBSCO, and conforms to standards of indexing established by EBSCO and the Library of Congress
* Executes assigned work as directed by Supervisor or Senior Production Coordinator
* Creates records consistent in quality and speed with accepted standards for Abstractors
* Assists with other projects as assigned by Senior Production Coordinator, Supervisor, or Editorial management
Skills
Requirements:
* Bachelors Degree
* Fluent in English and French
* 1+ years in a role requiring analytical, reading, writing and proofing skills
* 1+ years experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Preferred Qualifications:
* Excellent verbal communication; Excellent written communication
* Positive attitude & team player
* Translation experience
* Awareness of worldwide current events
