The Mount Holyoke College Library Archives & Special Collections is the site of this position. This position reports to the Head of Archives & Special Collections.

Job Description
Responsibilities:

The Mount Holyoke Archives & Special Collections intern will engage in a variety of activities related to processing, managing, and promoting archival collections. The intern will work closely with Archives and Special Collections staff, and collaboratively with members of the Digital Assets and Preservation Services (DAPS) department. The intern’s primary duty will include physical arrangement of the College’s Board of Trustees Records and description of these materials using Archivists’ Toolkit. Other duties in social media and reference work related to these records may be assigned.

Qualifications

Required:
Enrollment in the Simmons GSLIS West program.
Completion of LIS 415, Information Organization
Completion of LIS 438, Introduction to Archives
Excellent oral and written communication, organization, and problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to maintain a professional and tactful approach in all interactions, ensuring confidentiality and an individual’s right to privacy regarding appropriate information.

Preferred:
Familiarity with handling archives/special collections/institutional records
Knowledge of metadata schemas such as Dublin Core and MODS; content standards such as AACR2 and DACS; and controlled vocabularies

Hourly rate
$11.50/hour.

Hours/week
15 hours per week.

Days and times needed
Hours may be somewhat flexible but must be scheduled in at least 2 hour blocks and during the hours Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.

End period
May 30, 2014, contingent upon performance evaluation in January.
