Library Paraprofessional, Dorchester Academy, Dorchester MA

Reports to:  Principal

 

Job Description:

The Library Paraprofessional performs tasks in areas of library materials acquisition, file and record maintenance, circulation, assists students and staff, and performs other related duties as requested by Principal/Headmaster.

 

Responsibilities:

1. Provides general assistance to students and staff.

2. Sorts and shelves books.

3. Maintains shelves and files.

4. Inventories all materials.

5. Maintains and repairs books and printed materials.

6. Plans library literacy lessons to implement for daily schedule of classes, appropriate to each grade level.

7. Inspects new materials and conserves materials.

8. Orders books in consultation with staff and Principal

9. Coordinates and produces monthly school-wide newsletter in coordination with computer specialist.

10. Monitor and maintain instructional materials in Book Room.

11. Coordinates use of laminating machine in coordination with other assigned teacher.

12. Visit local library once a year with designated classes.

13. Work with teachers to support curriculum units of study at each grade level.

14. Maintain a positive climate conducive to learning.

15. Assumes other related responsibilities as requested by the Principal.

 

Qualifications:

 

Required:

 

1. High School Diploma or GED

2. Forty-eight (48) Credit Hours of College Coursework or an Associates Degree, or a passing score on one of the two following Formalized Standardized Assessments: ParaPro Assessment (http://www.ets.org/parapro/ ) or WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants (http://www.act.org/workkeys/profcert/index.html ).

3. Minimum of two years experience working with young children

 

Current authorization to work in the United States – Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

 

Preferred:

 

1. Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science/Communications or related area.
