Description
The town of Hingham, Massachusetts is looking for a part-time (12 to 16 hours per week) intern to work with the Town Archivist on several projects. The intern will process medium and small-sized collections dating from the 17th century to the present. The records include diaries, town documents, ledgers, correspondence, and photographs that are located within club records, town materials, and personal/family papers. The intern will create finding aids for these materials which will be placed on a website as well as in OCLC/NUCMC.
The intern will also conduct outreach activities, including writing articles for the local newspaper, completing brochures, and creating Facebook/website posts. The subjects will include the history of the town, updates on the preservation of materials, and opportunities for members of the community to donate materials.
Most of the work will be done at the Hingham Public Library, but there may be opportunities to work on the town records at Town Hall. This will involve working with town departments to appraise and organize records.
Qualifications
- Must be a current graduate student in an accredited archival program who has taken at least three courses in archives management and/or American history.
- Experience in processing archival/special collections.
- Familiarity with the use of social media outlets.
- Excellent writing, researching, and public speaking skills.
- Must be able to pass a CORI check.
