Job Summary:  

This position is responsible for the nuts and bolts daily operation of the library. 

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

 

Cataloguing:

· Catalog all library materials with MARC records into the MassCAT database

· Update MARC records as needed

 

Acquisitions and Processing:

· Prepare and dispatch orders for materials via mail, phone and electronically

· Check in materials received and verify invoices

· Oversee the processing of library materials

· Maintain the library’s periodical holdings

 

Public Service Responsibilities:

· Coordinate purchasing of supplies and maintain supply inventory

· Assist in preparation of vouchers, reports, forms, correspondence and other documents

· Oversee and implement Book Donation program.

· Assist with student, faculty and staff needs

· Provide reference and selection assistance to faculty, staff and students

· Provide coverage at the circulation desk and provide staff coverage until next shift arrives

· Maintain a welcoming environment for students, faculty, and staff which is also an appropriate atmosphere for study

· Manage OVERDUE’s weekly, send out notices, relay Smart Card charges to Bookstore

· Oversee interlibrary loans and liaison to  MassCAT

· Maintain the integrity of the collection through reading shelves, cleaning, and the inventory

· Arrange and maintain the reserve collection

· Understand and assist in the implementation of all library policies.

· Prepare and maintain appropriate displays including the recessed cases, monthly current events board, vestibule WELCOME board

· Participate in the 2.0 endeavors when called upon

· Serve as the library’s representative at staff meetings

· Perform related tasks as needed

 

 Qualifications and Skills Required for Position

· Demonstrated ability to build rapport with teens

· Creative with an inquisitive mind

· Must be a team player, able to work collaboratively in a group setting, and cooperate cordially with other team members.

· Exceptional organizational skills with high attention to detail.

· Ability to interact professionally with all members of the Academy community − including faculty, students, staff, and outside vendors.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

· Excellent customer service skills, pleasant and outgoing personality essential.

· Strong proficiency in Windows platform, with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.  

· Knowledge of and experience in library technical services, especially cataloging and classification practices.

· Willingness to acquire new skills essential and desire to participate in a variety of professional development opportunities.

· Successful completion of a criminal records background check.

 

 

Supervision Received

Reports to the Director of Library Services and Director of Archives

 

 

Hours

Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm.  This is a year-round position.
