Job Summary
Position Responsibilities:
Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking an outgoing and professional individual to join our team as a paid intern/co-op within the Information Sourcing Solutions department. The Information Sourcing Solutions group supports a global community of scientists and businesspeople who require cutting-edge information for their commitment to helping patients.
This intern will be responsible for fulfilling information needs through document delivery and library system enhancements. This is a hands-on learning opportunity for a candidate beginning or considering a Master’s program in Library/Information Science, and will strengthen the intern’s knowledge of e-resources, web technologies, and special librarianship. Flexible hours; course credit possible.
Key Responsibilities
– Process requests for individual articles and scientific documents
– Manage database of journal holdings, open access resources, and in-house article collection
– Communicate with patrons and vendors to resolve issues
– Provide additional support for information management activities which may include maintaining usage statistics, evaluating new technologies, and assisting in education/marketing efforts
Minimum Qualifications
– Must have a high school diploma and be enrolled in a degree program leading to a Bachelors degree. Graduates may qualify if they are enrolled in an advanced degree program.
– Minimum 3.2/4.0 GPA
– One year time commitment required
Preferred Qualifications
– Enrollment in a Master’s program in Library/Information Science
– Previous experience in libraries or information management
– Knowledge of computer software and web technologies, with familiarity in SQL databases and Sharepoint a plus
– Strong organizational skills with acute attention to detail
– Ability to work independently and collaboratively, to identify and tackle obstacles, and to manage and prioritize diverse responsibilities
– Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
