*Job Description: The Christian Science Monitor Library is offering a paid fall internship in its news library.
The intern will work with the librarian serving the headquarters’ newsroom and network of domestic and international bureaus primarily supporting web-first journalism on the MONITOR’s online platform CSMonitor.com, as well as a weekly print magazine and daily email digest. The MONITOR Library also assists with information needs for the editorial staff and other departments.
This internship is for graduate students currently matriculating in an MLIS program or variation thereof.
This internship will provide excellent and intensive hands-on experience in the fields of news and special librarianship. The ideal candidate will apply curiosity, creativity and dedication to accuracy to the library’s work and media production.
Requirements include completion of a graduate level reference course, a regular news-reading routine in place, and the ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities can include: providing research for daily news stories and longer-term news assignments using Internet resources and commercial database services such as Lexis / Nexis, Factiva, and ProQuest; other print and online resources as needed, digital archiving and indexing of photos, pages and PDFs using a Merlin DAM system; advising staff on information strategy, intranet and wiki web page redesign and development; weeding and reorganization of the library collection, and promotion of content on social media outlets.
Schedule: Start and end dates are negotiable. Work days are flexible as well, but will be largely be staffing during Monday-Thursday, 9:00 – 5:00 pm.
