Position: Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information Science at GSLIS West Part-time Student Assistant
This is a part-time position. The site of the work is the South Hadley office of the GSLIS West at MHC program.

Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Supports GSLIS West faculty, including help with Moodlerooms, wikis, blogs, checking links and resources, posting content, managing reserves, photocopying, setting up presentation equipment, etc.
- Collects data and produces reports, including program assessments, GSLIS course evaluations, surveys, and other on-going assessment activities.
- Handles classroom, continuing education, and computer lab logistics (particularly on Saturdays), including opening and closing of classrooms, facilitating classroom use, and other duties.
- Supports the GSLIS office space and equipment, including basic technical support for computer workstations, cleaning up, and other duties; and supports the activities of the GSLIS West office, including filing, scheduling, organizing, web site management, computer lab maintenance and other office duties.
- Working with the Simmons GSLIS West Program Manager, helps with the logistics of recruiting. Occasionally creates materials for information session packets.
- Maintains GSLIS West Office Wiki and photographic archive.
- Assists GSLIS West students and student organizations, such as LISSA West. Organizes events, designs and leads workshops, and provides tutoring services for students.
- Processes and manages student records within ALEPH library system at Mt. Holyoke LITS.
- Occasional responsibility for the GSLIS West Office, in the absence of the Assistant Dean and Program Manager.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Enrollment in the GSLIS West program;
- Completion of one semester;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Good computer technology and Internet skills, including HTML and wiki markup
- Willingness to take on work at divergent skill and prestige levels from cleaning up the office to maintaining website content to tutoring and leading workshops;
- Commitment to the success of the GSLIS West program
Recommended:
- Familiarity with Moodlerooms;
- Familiarity with wikis and web publication tools;
- Familiarity with reference sources;
- Familiarity with Excel
Hourly rate: $13.00/hour
Hours/week: Up to 15 hours per week; days and times needed: Support must be provided on Saturdays, before and after each class, but work schedule will not conflict with taking courses. Remaining hours as arranged in advance.
Reporting structure: Reports to the Program Manager for the GSLIS West program. Coordinates with the GSLIS West Assistant Dean.
End period: June 30, 2014, with the possibility of renewal (must be enrolled in GSLIS and attending classes at GSLIS West).
