Position Summary
The Millicent Library seeks a friendly, service oriented, and self-motivated individual to fill its Library Page position. This position involves assisting with library operations, including organizing, shelving, and retrieving materials. It requires physical activity, including navigating stairs to access collections on upper floors.
Supervision
Reports to and performs duties under the Head of Circulation, with general supervision from the Library Director; is familiar with work routine and is self-motivated to carry out recurring assignments. Library management provides instructions for new or other responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Shelve, retrieve, and organize library materials according to library classification system on multiple floors.
- Maintain library organization and orderliness by accurately placing materials in their designated locations.
- Ensure that materials in the Library of Things are maintained, by charging electronics and quality checking multipart materials for all components.
- Identify damaged materials for staff attention and/or repair.
- Provide support and assistance to patrons and other staff in a courteous and professional manner.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move light objects (less than 20 pounds) for short distances
- Ability to transport library book trucks, including across carpeted floors
- Ability to ascend and descend stairs to access and re-shelve materials on second and third floors, which are only accessible by stairs
- Ability to stand for extended periods while performing tasks such as sorting and shelving materials
- Ability to bend, stretch, and lift materials from floor to overhead shelves.
Schedule
This position is for up to 19 hours/week at $16.00 per hour. The ideal candidate for this position will have flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings and Saturdays as needed.
Qualifications
- Basic ability to correctly sort items alphabetically and numerically. Familiarity with library classification systems is a plus.
- Ability to follow directions, manage time efficiently, and complete tasks independently or as part of a team.
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail; values accurate work.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new methods or technologies as required by the job.
