Evening and Weekend Supervisor, School of the Museum of Fine Arts Library, Tufts University, (Boston, MA)

Job Description:

Evening and weekend supervisors at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Library serve as the senior employees on shift during those times of operation – evenings and weekends. They supervise student workers at the service desk and otherwise keep the library operating while full-time staff are absent. They assist library users by finding requested materials, checking materials in and out, providing basic reference service and making referrals to librarians as needed. They assist in the processing of interlibrary loan requests by retrieving, scanning and packing outgoing materials, and receiving and processing incoming materials for patron use.

Hours for this position are: 

  • 1pm to 6pm on Saturdays during the academic year. 
  • 4pm to 9pm on Mondays and Wednesdays during the academic year. 

Reporting to the Library Coordinator, the candidate will perform the following job duties: 

  • Responsible for the customer service and circulation activities at the library services desk.  
  • Administers library policies. 
  • Provides continuous training and supervision of student workers. 
  • Opens the library following opening procedures on the weekends. 
  • Closes and secures building following Closing Procedures. 
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor. 
  • Supervises evening and weekend programming as needed. 
  • Interacts and collaborates with other departments in the institution. 

Minimum Qualifications (Required): 

  • A completed bachelor’s degree; additional years of directly related experience and course work beyond high school may be substituted for degree.  
  • Customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Supervisory experience.  
  • Library experience.
