Music Research Services Associate (Less than half time), Harvard University (Cambridge)

** This is a Less Than Half Time position with up to 14 hours per week**

Reporting to the Reference and Digital Program Librarian, the Music Research Services Associate is a collaborative and user-centered professional who provides support for the Eda Kuhn Loeb Music Library’s research, teaching, and learning activities. They will provide in-person and virtual reference and research consultation services. They will also provide support for additional Music Library research, teaching, and learning activities as needed, including developing online research tools to support users seeking relevant collections, services, and resources at the Music Library and across Harvard Library, collaborating with Music Library colleagues to provide course-integrated information literacy instruction, and participating in outreach and orientation activities. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides in-person and virtual reference and research consultation services 
  • Assists patrons with technical troubleshooting issues 
  • Makes referrals to research librarians, specific libraries, or other service locations and forwards questions to appropriate staff/department 
  • Contributes to unit goals by accomplishing related duties as required, such as:
    • Develops online research tools to support users seeking relevant collections, services, and resources at the Music Library and across Harvard Library
    • Collaborates with the Reference and Digital Program Librarian and others to provide course-integrated information literacy instruction.
    • Participates in outreach and orientation activities
    • Collaborates with colleagues to promote Music Library collections and services by contributing to the Music Library’s social media channels 
    • Participates in projects to assess and improve user experience in the Music Library

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

·         B.A. or B.S. or equivalent education and experience 

·         Experience conducting academic research in the arts or humanities using library resources and/or collections 

·         Subject knowledge in music and/or another performing arts discipline 

Additional Requirements: 

·         Experience working in a library or other customer-service setting 

·         Strong service orientation 

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with culturally diverse library users and colleagues 

·         Demonstrated commitment to supporting efforts to foster diversity, inclusion, belonging, and antiracism in library, university, and professional contexts 

·         Ability to learn new technologies and systems
