The Frances Loeb Library is seeking a part-time Asynchronous Resources Assistant to work with the
Research & Teaching Team (R&T). This position will review, edit, and create digital learning objects and
asynchronous material to be delivered primarily via Springshare products. A major focus will be on re-
developing Loeb Library’s Library Guides.

Reporting to the Research & Teaching Team Lead and working closely with the Research, Teaching, and
Writing Services Librarian, this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in working with research
and reference tools in an academic design community.
   
This is a 14-hour-per-week, one-year position to be evaluated for extension at year’s completion. The
work will initially be conducted on-site, with the option of exploring remote work possibilities when the
work plan is established. Graduate students are encouraged to apply.
 
 Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Gain an understanding of the Loeb Library’s asynchronous offerings and Springshare products.
  • Working closely with R&T Librarians, review and contribute to workplan for updating Loeb
    Library’s Library Guides.
  • Execute workplan for updating Loeb Library’s Library Guides.
  • Work with a variety of library systems and tools (HOLLIS, EBSCO and other databases, Microsoft
    Office, local GSD systems, etc.).
  • Perform routine clerical tasks and other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications 

  • Interest in exploring patron needs and facilitating the discovery of library resources.
  • Curiosity about research, teaching, and reference.
  • Desire to learn about how libraries create and maintain asynchronous resources that
    create bridges between users and information.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to complete work in a timely manner.
  • A commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population.
  • Library experience, particularly in academic settings, is desired.
  • Interest in design and design education a plus. 

Overview 

The Frances Loeb Library Research & Teaching Team is comprised of research and teaching support, GIS
(Geographic Information Systems) and data support, and Loeb Library’s Writing Services program.  Each
of these focuses on the disciplines of the Harvard Graduate School of Design, including architecture,
landscape architecture, and urban planning and design. R&T works closely with the Loeb Librarians, GSD
students, faculty, and, at times, independent design researchers.
