Knights of Columbus Supreme Council Archives – Contract Processing Archivist (2 POSITIONS), (New Haven, CT)

Reports To: Knights of Columbus Supreme Council Archivist

Summary: The Knights of Columbus is a world-wide fraternal, benevolent society founded in 1882 which offers insurance to its members. The Knights of Columbus Supreme Council Archives holds the corporate records of the organization. The Contract Processing Archivist will process and prepare materials under the direction of the Supreme Council Archivist. This is a unique opportunity for those who have an interest in corporate archives and fraternal organizations. The successful candidate will possess a high degree of initiative, enjoys a collaborative environment, and seeks additional experience processing collections.

Preference will be given to archivists with a minimum of 1-3 years’ experience. Experience with corporate archives is desirable. The position is full time and in-person, Monday – Friday, 8:00 – 4:30. The position will start approximately July 1, 2024, and will last for 1 year with the possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities: The Contract Processing Archivists will assist with a wide variety of archival tasks and will collaborate with contractors, interns, and museum staff. Tasks include, but are not limited to:
□ Appraise record groups and create a processing plan.
□ Process and rehouse physical assets.
□ Create finding aids and their entry into ArchivesSpace.
□ Consult with Archivist to identify files for digitization.
□ Assist with oversight of on-site digitization staff.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience
□ A MLIS/MIS from an ALA-accredited institution
□ Familiarity with archival best practices
□ Experience with archival arrangement, description, and processing of paper-based collections
□ Strong attention to detail
□ Demonstrated ability to analyze, prioritize, organize, and work independently
□ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
□ Familiarity with content management systems, specifically ArchivesSpace, is highly desirable
□ All hires must pass a drug screening and background check before beginning work.

Salary: $25-30/hour based on experience.
