Reference Librarian (Part-Time), Georgetown Peabody Library, (Georgetown, MA)

Description: The Georgetown Peabody Library seeks an energetic, enthusiastic, outgoing librarian to work at our Reference Desk. This is a professional position reporting to the Library Director. This part-time position averages 16-17 hours per week including evenings, a rotation of Saturdays, or as designated by the Library Director.

The position is responsible for providing reference and reader advisory services to patrons in person or remotely at the Reference Desk. Maintains public computers, printers, and provides technical support as needed. Assists patrons with Wi-Fi, using internet, printing from web, accessing email, using library catalog, downloading documents, formatting documents, using copier and fax machine. Catalogues new materials and performs data entry and/or record creation.  Creates the records on the catalog; repairs or updates existing records in the catalog.

Handles technical services which involves processing new materials for circulation and repair materials which have been damaged.  Process new books for circulation, which could include jackets, stamps, embossing, call number labels and other specific stickers.  Repackage new media for circulation. Repairs books and replaces jackets. Participates in professional development, system meetings, workshops and continuing education.  Designs displays and other materials to promote the library. Performs other duties as required. 

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years of experience in a library setting are required or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Master’s degree in Library Science is preferred.

Skills: Proven ability and desire to work effectively with the public. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Experience with the use of the Internet, social media, databases and library systems (SirsiDynix Symphony preferred). Ability to work independently and as a team member. Detailed oriented and exhibits considerable judgment skills.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must communicate, talk and hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and reach with hands and arms; frequently is required to walk and sit; and occasionally is required to climb or balance. The employee frequently must lift and/or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds; and seldom lift and/or move objects weighing up to 60 pounds. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges to read documents and analyze data. This position requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and to operate a keyboard at efficient speed.

Salary: $26.49/hour. No benefits.
