Archives Research & Reference Assistant”, Baker Library at Harvard Business School (Boston, MA)

Dates:       April 15, 2024 to July 15, 2024

Pay rate: $20.75 – $24.00 per hour, based on experience

Description:

Reporting to the Senior HBS Archivist, Baker Library Special Collections and Archives seeks an experienced Research & Reference Assistant to identify archival and printed materials, primarily from the HBS Archives, to support ongoing research and reference projects.   The Research & Reference Assistant will also contribute to the daily public services operations and aid users in the de Gaspé Beaubien Reading Room at Baker Library, Harvard Business School.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, locate, and retrieve relevant materials from the HBS Archives and other collections to support HBS wide research and reference projects.
  • Conduct research and analysis of archival and printed materials and prepare reports and summaries of findings.
  • Staff the de Gaspé Beaubien Reading Room, serving as the public face of Baker Library Special Collections.
  • Provide users an orientation to the use of collections, answer questions regarding policies and procedures, check collections items out to users and track the use of library materials, and ensure the safety and security of collections.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from a library and information science, history, or related program.
  • 3 years of experience with archival research and handling special collections materials. 
  • Experience with confidential and/or restricted materials; ability to identify and work with restricted materials with discretion.
  • Excellent organizational and written skills with a strong attention to detail.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Familiarity with special collections reading room policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of economic and business history.
