Part-Time Library Assistant in Youth Services, Newburgh Free Library, Newburgh, NY

SUMMARY
The Newburgh Free Library seeks an energetic and outgoing team player for a Part Time Library Assistant position in our Youth Services Department. The ideal candidate will be a great communicator, possess a love of children’s literature and working with kids, be organized, adaptable, and creative in working with colleagues and the public. The Part Time Library Assistant will provide general assistance within the town branch and the Main Library to parents, teachers, caregivers and other adults regarding collections, resources, programs, and services. This position is 4 workdays per week and includes one evening a week and one Saturday shift per month, as required by contract.

With over 60 staff members, 2 locations, and a service area of approximately 60,000 people, the Newburgh Free Library is a bustling place. This Part Time Library Assistant position is a union title, 35 hours a week, requiring one night a week and one Saturday a month. The Library Assistant works under the general supervision of a Librarian.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Facilitate elementary aged program as needed at the Main Library and Town branch under the supervision of the Department Head
Maintain and manage records and information necessary for department’s services and programs, including statistics and records to evaluate services to youth and documents/materials used in programming. Maintain and develop informational materials and resources for the department (i.e. flyers, brochures, booklists, calendars, etc.) Assist in creation and distribution of materials to promote and publicize department programs and services, including website and other social media promotion.
May be assigned to represent the Library at events in the schools and in the community.
Respond to internal and external inquiries by phone, correspondence or in person.
Works with department staff to evaluate and monitor materials, services and programs and make recommendations for change and improvement.
Provide general assistance for all department programs and activities.
