SLIS Makerspace Facilitator, Simmons University, (Boston, MA)

The SLIS Makerspace is a student-led innovation hub for creative activity,
entrepreneurial inquiry, exploration of technology, academic and extracurricular
projects, and community outreach and engagement. In our Makerspace,
imagination, ingenuity, innovation, and inquiry spark the collaborative creation of
new artifacts and ideas.

Responsibilities

The Makerspace Facilitator position is a unique learning opportunity for SLIS
students to gain experience in physical space management and a team of
student workers. The Facilitator oversees Makerspace operations, student
worker staffing, and serves as a liaison to curricular, co-curricular, and outreach
activities that contribute to the Makerspace vision. Once the facilitator is familiar
with the equipment and supplies, some activities include:

  • Manage and support creative activities, including workshops, special events, and classes
  • Develop documentation on equipment usage and training for Makerspace users
  • Oversee Makerspace student worker schedules and orientations/training
  • Develop, purchase, organize, and maintain a collection of making equipment, and supplies
  • Monitor and manage space utilization and access policies; collect usage data and information
  • Explore the integration of new technologies, such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR)

This position is in-person, with occasional opportunities for remote work.
The expected time commitment is approximately 15 hours a week.
The expected pay is $16/hour.

Candidates with interest (or experience) in 3D printing, Cricut machines, sewing
and embroidery, and/or fabric crafts are highly encouraged to apply.
