Community Engagement Coordinator, Newburgh Free Library, Newburgh, NY

SUMMARY
The Newburgh Free Library seeks an organized and outgoing team player for a full time Community
Engagement Coordinator position in our Community Engagement and Outreach Department. The ideal candidate will be a great communicator, possess a strong knowledge of the Newburgh community, have the ability to build and maintain relationships, and be comfortable in a variety of situations. The Newburgh Free Library is a mid-sized urban library serving the people of the City of Newburgh, the Town of Newburgh, and the Town of New Windsor. The Main Library in the City of Newburgh has beautiful views, sitting atop a hill overlooking the Hudson River. A Town of Newburgh Branch location is scheduled to open in 2024.

With over 60 staff members, 2 locations, and a service area of approximately 60,000 people, the
Newburgh Free Library is a bustling place. This Community Engagement Coordinator position is a union title, 35 hours a week, requiring one night a week and one Saturday a month. The Community Engagement Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Library Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
● Inspire, involve, and train all Library staff in outreach engagement strategies for the community
● Work collaboratively across all departments to develop and implement community engagement
and outreach services
● Coordinate and schedule staffing for outreach tabling events, city events, art exhibits, and other
collaborations
● Coordinate and promote arts, education, and social service partnerships at the Library and in
the community
● Initiate contacts and represent the Library at community programs, meetings, and events
● Work closely with the Programs, Marketing, and Communications Department to ensure
community engagement and outreach efforts are in synch with Library programs and marketing
campaigns
● Maintain lists and contact information for a variety of community partners
● Ensure compliance with the initiatives of the Central Library Strategic Plan
● Identify services needed for specific target audiences, including, but not limited to: New
Americans and Immigrants, Unhoused populations, Veterans, Persons with Disabilities,
Entrepreneurs, Senior Citizens, Formerly Incarcerated populations, and Neurodivergent
populations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND QUALITIES REQUIRED
● Experience working with diverse communities and a strong interest in developing innovative
approaches to introducing the community to Library programs, collections, resources, and services
● Awareness of community organizations and resources, programs, and services available to support
literacy, education, economic development, and arts and culture
● A strong commitment to the public library as a relevant and important resource for all citizens, and
critical to the infrastructure and prosperous growth of the community
● English/Spanish bilingual applicants are preferred, but not required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
● Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or related field and two
years’ experience in marketing, public relations, or community outreach OR
● Associates degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or related field and four
years’ experience in marketing, public relations, or community outreach

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary range: $55,000 – $65,000 depending on experience. Health insurance, vision, dental, and participation in the New York State Retirement System. Employees receive generous vacation, sick leave, and flex days.
