Volunteer for the Walden Woods Project, Lincoln, MA

The Walden Woods Project is a Lincoln-based not-for-profit dedicated to the literature, legacy, and landscape of writer and naturalist Henry David Thoreau. The library is seeking a volunteer to assist with the construction and design of an online, public-facing exhibit about Thoreau’s working herbarium, a collection of botanical specimens he compiled in the first half of the nineteenth century. The exhibit will use Omeka, a web-publishing software for libraries and other cultural institutions.

We are seeking someone who has experience working with Omeka or with an equivalent web-publishing platform. Experience with web and graphic design is preferred.

This project would be ideal for a graduate or college student studying library science who is interested in the opportunity for hands-on experience working with one of the most widely-used open source web-publishing platforms. The intern would work alongside The Walden Woods Project’s curatorial and education assistant and in consultation with the curator of collections.

Please email Zoë Pollak ([email protected]) if interested and include a CV and a few sentences about what makes you a good fit for this project.
