The Director of Library Services is a department chair and faculty position ensuring the smooth operation of the Athenaeum (Library) in the support of students and faculty, and the instructional goals of the Academy.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the Athenaeum  is open and staffed 62.5 hours per week.
  • Prepares and executes financial plans for the Library Services department, including an annual budget.
  • Directs and supervises the Library Assistant and Evening Library Monitors.
  • Develops and modifies Library Services policies as needed.
  • Develops and weeds the print and electronic collection in accordance with the Collection Development policy.
  • Delivers information literacy and MLA instruction and reader’s advisory services to students and faculty of the Academy.
  • Translates curriculum needs into Library Services goals and objectives.
  • Creates and coordinates student programming in the Athenaeum to ensure the space is a hub of learning, fun and student engagement.
  • Encourages literacy by working with the Dean of Academics and the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on summer reading initiatives.
  • Develops and continually updates the professional expertise necessary to function effectively in the Director of Library Services role.
  • Teach one year long or three trimester classes.
  • Supervise two seasons of afternoon activities.

 

Qualifications

  • Requires a master’s degree in Library Science (MLS or MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program and a minimum of five years experience as a school media specialist or as an academic librarian.
  • Experience with standard library software and databases required.
  • Experience with prep school/boarding school culture is a plus.

 

Residential Life Responsibilities

As a boarding school, all faculty are asked to contribute to the residential life program.

  • If living on campus in dorm housing, faculty are asked to provide 1 night a week & 1 weekend a month of dorm supervision.
  • If living off campus in your own residence, faculty are asked to provide 4 weekends a year of activity duty/supervision.

Physical Requirements

Physical demands include dexterity for office machines including but not limited to computers, telephones, electronic calculators, copy machines, and printers. Common physical demands include stooping, bending, reaching, walking and sitting or standing for extended periods.

Job Type
