MAKERSPACE – Creative Technology Assistant (Calling all SLIS Graduate students at Simmons University)

The MakerSharks manage and support creative activities in the Simmons Makerspace, related spaces on campus, and online, supporting the entire Simmons community. A Creative Technology Specialist (CTS) provides support for MakerSharks events, open lab hours, and outreach efforts. A CTS will work collaboratively with the SLIS Academic Technology Manager, the SLIS Makerspace Facilitator, and other CTS staff.

The CTS will become familiar with the equipment and supplies in the Makerspace and related spaces, participate in the maintenance of the space and equipment, and collaborate on the development and execution of workshops, social events, and community outreach programs. A CTS will have the opportunity to specialize in a certain skill and/or tool domain for the purpose of developing documentation, training others, and facilitating events within the chosen domain. 

This opportunity will provide SLIS students experience in hosting events and expanding their knowledge on particular creative and technical projects of their choosing.

Ideal candidates will have flexible schedules, a friendly disposition, and an interest in fostering and supporting creativity using technical skills. This position is in-person, with occasional opportunities for remote work.

Candidates with interest (or experience) in 3D printing, coding, digital imagery, or fabric crafts are highly encouraged to apply.

Pay

Expected pay is $16/hr for graduate students.

Hours

This position does not exceed 10 hours per week.
