In January of 2020, the school unveiled a 5-year strategic plan, BluePrint125 — a product of extensive internal investigation and collaborative discussion among the School’s many constituents. In recent years, the School has made significant investments in campus upgrades to improve energy efficiency, air quality, and public safety. Other major campus enhancements have included the creation of flexible, multi-functional learning spaces in the areas of performing arts, athletics, and technology.

Position Overview

Bancroft School seeks an energetic, flexible, innovative Middle School/Upper School Librarian to join our service-oriented, student centered library and educational technology program that is fully integrated into the school. Collaborating with the Lower School Librarian, this position helps to oversee engagement in the Library for students and faculty, manage the overall library budget, and administer digital resources related to the library and educational technology. The MS/US Librarian works in collaboration with academic leadership and faculty to foster professional growth opportunities for faculty in the areas of educational technology, research, and literacy while working to support student growth and development in the areas of information literacy and recreational reading.

Start date: October 12, 2023
End date: TBD (currently projected to be December 12, 2023)
Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00AM – 3:45PM
Pay Rate: $24.00 – $26.00 per hour, based on experience
CORI: Required

General Duties

  • Information literacy and recreational reading.
  • Fostering a culture of inquiry.
  • Developing the physical library space.
  • Collection of reading materials with a focus on human-centered design.
  • Supporting faculty professional development in the areas of research and educational technology.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Masters of Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program.
  • Experience working in a middle school and/or high school setting.
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Understanding of and experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion practices that create a library culture where all are welcome.
  • Partnering with Academic Leadership Team and Department Chairs to help identify needs, priorities, and best practices in instructional technology and to help shape a mindset about educational technology that is equitable, empathetic, and flexible.
