Substitute Library Technician, Georgetown Peabody Library, Georgetown, MA

The Georgetown Peabody Library seeks candidates to work on our Saturday rotation (open Saturdays from September to June) and serve as an on-call substitute at either of our three desks (Circulation, Reference, Children’s Room). The desired candidate must deliver exceptional customer service, attend closely to detail, possess confidence in interpreting and enforcing library policies and procedures, enjoy interacting with the general public, and be dedicated to the mission of public library service.

Duties include charging materials to patrons, helping them with accounts and entering data in the Library’s computer system.  Duties also include maintaining the order of the collection, gathering materials from the collection, assisting with technology questions and miscellaneous general inquiries.

The schedule for this position includes being implemented into our Saturday rotation schedule, 9am-1pm.  You would also be invited to act as a substitute to cover other shifts at our Circulation, Reference, or Children’s Room desks as needs arise.

Qualifications:

A high school diploma or GED, detail-oriented and good organizational skills, ability to use a computer and interest to develop more technology skills, and ability to work with library staff and the general public in a courteous and tactful manner.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must stand and use hands to finger, handle or feel; frequently must communicate, talk and hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and reach with hands and arms; and occasionally is required to walk, and sit. The employee frequently must lift and/or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds; occasionally must lift/and or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds; and seldom must lift and/or move objects weighing up to 60 pounds. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges to read documents and analyze data. This position requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and operate a keyboard at efficient speed.

Salary: $20.09 / hour (no benefits)
