The Oliver Wendell Holmes Library at Phillips Academy Andover seeks a personable, energetic, creative, and self-directed individual to become a member of our library team. The successful candidate will staff the Welcome Desk and provide research and circulation assistance to the Phillips Academy community. Additionally, this member of our team will assist with supporting student clubs in the evening. This is an academic year only, 18-hour per week evening position, with the ability to work 12-8:00 PM on Sundays and 4:30-9:30 PM two evenings a week. 

The successful candidate will: 

• Help carry out all the evening activities of the Welcome Desk in an effective, customer oriented, and professional manner as well as assist with basic circulation responsibilities. 

• Provide reference and research assistance (in person, on the phone, and via email and online chat) and aid in creating online guides designed to enhance the use and understanding of the OWHL’s collections. 

• Participate in professional development activities, workshops, and trainings when possible. 

Qualifications Required

• Master’s degree in one of the following disciplines from an accredited institution: library and/or information science, education, history, or social science. 

• Ability to communicate about current information and emerging technologies. 

• Current experience in providing reference services and conducting one-on-one consultative reference interviews. 

• Knowledge of major databases used in an academic environment. 

• Ability and willingness to work in a team environment. 

• Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. 

• A background check must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position at Phillips Academy. Preferred Experience: 

• Working with teens and an understanding of their mindset and interests. 

• One to two years of developing and teaching effective library instruction sessions and curricula. 

• Using Evergreen ILS and SpringShare products.
