Head of Bibliographic Services, Winchester Public Library, Winchester, MA

Seeking an experienced, professional librarian to join our management team as the Head of
Bibliographic Services. Responsible for the ordering, acquisition, and classification of all materials
added to the collection, overseeing data entry and processing of all materials as well as the withdrawal
of materials removed from the collections. Responsible for tracking expenditures and producing fund
reports and generating reports strategic to collection development. Plays a major role in non-fiction
collection development and coordinates with other librarians involved in collection development. The
position manages a small department of staff and volunteers. Other duties include at least one shift on
the adult Technology and Information Services desk.

Participation in various network committees is required. The ideal candidate will be forward-thinking
and familiar with current trends and best practices in public libraries.

Qualifications:

  • A Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three years of professional library experience (post MLS), preferably in a public library.
  • Strong interpersonal and written and oral communication skills are essential. Ability to deal with all members of the staff and public in a courteous and tactful manner. Excellent reference skills for print, non-print, and electronic devices are required. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to operate a keyboard and view a computer monitor and other electronic devices on a regular basis. Ability to reach for items on high and low shelves, as needed. Required to talk and hear and list and move equipment and bookcarts.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and actively participate in the ordering, acquisition, and classification of all materials added to the collections; Oversee data entry and physical preparation and maintenance of all materials; Oversee the withdrawal of materials removed from the collection.
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of all Minuteman Network, as well as WPL, policies and procedures related to the ordering, classification and processing of materials.
  • Responsible for accuracy in dealing with acquisitions, tracking expenditures and producing fund reports; works closely with the periodical vendor to maintain complete and accurate holdings according to contract.
  • Provides data to assist librarians with collection development, including but not limited to the withdrawal of materials.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of database information for all WPL bibliographic records in the Minuteman Network catalog; Notify Minuteman Network of errors and/or problems found.
  • Responsible for collection development in coordination with librarians.

Hours: 35 hours per week with benefits package.

Full Salary Range: $64,509 – $94,179. Candidates can expect to start on the lower end to middle of the
range.
