K-State Libraries invites applications for a University Archivist faculty position (tenure track) in the Richard L.D. and Majorie J. Morse Department of Special Collections at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor. The University Archivist serves as a senior advisor to Libraries and university administration, departments, and offices in the development of K-State’s university archives program. This position requires demonstrated knowledge of archival theory and practice that includes records administration. Reporting to the Department Head, the University Archivist provides expertise in the following: accepted standards and best practices of archival administration; compliance with university policies and federal and state law regarding access, retention, and disposition of records with enduring value; and identification of records of historical importance. Collaborates closely with the University Records Manager in performing these duties and works cooperatively with others in the department to accomplish shared goals of making archival holdings available for use. Works with the department head to assess staffing, facility, technology, and financial resource needs and to implement plans to meet those needs. The individual selected for this position will also have oversight of the department’s reference services.

This is a full-time, tenure-track academic appointment carrying full faculty status and responsibilities. The candidate must have a commitment to scholarly/creative activities and professional service necessary for pursuing tenure at Kansas State University Libraries. To be successful in this position, the incumbent must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills to establish and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues in an environment where flexibility and collaboration are essential.  The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service.

Salary: based on academic experience and accomplishments commensurate with departmental guidelines. Starting salary at assistant professor rank is $60,000.

Qualifications:

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Demonstrated experience in archival administration and/or records management, including knowledge of and experience with collection management systems, digital archives tools, and recordkeeping systems.
  • Knowledge of laws and ethics that inform archival administration activities in a higher education environment, such as acquisition, processing, reference services, providing access, and intellectual property.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to convey complex archival issues to diverse constituencies that include administrative units, students, faculty, student groups, affiliated organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience providing effective reference services.
  • Proven skill at collaborating in a team environment and in working independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver user-oriented services to stakeholders.
  • Proven capacity to embrace change, prioritize and organize effectively, and to show judgment, creativity, and initiative in accomplishing job duties and solving problems.
  • A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in supporting a diverse workforce and serving the needs of a diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate-level coursework in archival subjects or concentration in archival administration.
  • At least 3 years of experience in archival administration and/or records management.
  • Certification from the Academy of Certified Archivists.
  • Relevant experience in a higher education environment.
