Salary: $39,000+ depending on qualifications

The University of Texas Libraries is seeking candidates for the position of Content Management Specialist (Library Specialist).  This position handles all functions related to the receipt and processing of physical library resources.

Duties:

  • Receive, unpack, sort, and route physical materials to ensure immediate availability. Monitor the full life cycle of purchases and subscriptions, intervening and troubleshooting as required to ensure accurate and timely order fulfillment, referring as necessary to appropriate supervisors. Assist with validating the availability of journal volumes binding to ensure continued integrity and availability of journal collections for users. Contribute to the maintenance of an accurate and up-to-date acquisitions and/or continuing resources information in the Libraries’ integrated library system, Alma. Assist with acquiring new or renewing materials in both physical and electronic form through verification of incoming recommendations and subsequent selection of appropriate vendor and fund to ensure timely receipt of items. 
  • Undertake project-based work as required. Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, standards, and technical issues relating to the procurement and maintenance of physical and electronic resources. Participates in department meetings. Serves on committees, task forces, and working groups related to departmental responsibilities. Attends training initiatives as directed by supervisor or Head of Content Management.

Requirements:

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience related to purchasing, receiving, or inventorying items.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high degree of accuracy in performing tasks.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, manage workflows, and problem solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing environments and priorities.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding and appreciation of diversity and inclusion in a higher education context; ability to contribute to an inclusive and welcoming environment with a diverse workforce.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience working in an academic library in an Acquisitions, Serials, or Technical Services environment.
  • Experience working with an integrated library system/library service platform.
  • Experience with Alma library services platform.
  • Knowledge of purchasing best practices in an academic environment.
  • Experience acquiring and processing both monographs and continuing resources in a variety of formats.
  • Experience examining and analyzing purchase requests, invoices, and packing slips for accuracy.
  • Knowledge of Library of Congress classification scheme.
  • Experience solving complex problems.
  • Ability to contribute to a thoughtful, expressive environment, with a group of team leaders working together to create a constructive, open-minded, and innovative learning community.
  • Experience working directly with product and service providers in establishing business relationships and addressing issues related to the purchase or receipt of materials.
