KM Data Steward – Ropes & Gray (Boston/New York/Washington D.C.)

Description: The KM Database Steward works with the KM Products Solutions team within the Knowledge Management Department and is responsible for inputting and maintaining the integrity of the data in the firm’s experience database, Foundation.  This position is responsible for entering new records, cleaning up data, eliminating/merging duplicate data, researching and filling in missing information, and resolving discrepancies.  The Database Steward works under the supervision of the KM Product Manager to insure the integrity of records and will interface with attorneys and staff as necessary to administer the database.

Essential Functions include:

  1. Updates and maintains accurate records in the firm’s experience database;
  2. Conducts data entry for new records;
  3. Assists with user access and permissions changes;
  4. Cross-references data to ensure accuracy, non-duplication and to resolve any discrepancies;
  5. Regularly conducts research on firm matters to find missing pieces of information and to verify data;
  6. Assists with other KM projects as assigned;
  7. Assists with activities related to any upgrades of the database; including data imports.

Qualifications:

·     Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years’ experience in database usage;

·     Preferred experience in legal or professional services industry;

·     Demonstrated skills in the implementation of new systems and procedures;

·     Working knowledge of computer software programs, such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

·     Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, including management staff and support staff.

·     Must demonstrate the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of the firm’s internal and personnel data.

·     Must be flexible in order to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities; ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple, detailed tasks.

·     Must be team-oriented and able to share information, goals, opportunities, successes and failures with the appropriate parties.

·     Must have good decision-making skills and must know when to ask questions to the appropriate parties.

·     Superior attention to detail, problem solving capabilities, strong organizational and multi-tasking skills. Must show initiative and be willing to take ownership of projects.

·     Ability to plan, organize and carry out multiple related activities.

·     Ability to work in a multi-office environment.

·     Ability to work effectively in a culturally and educationally diverse environment.

·     Reliable and punctual.

·     High level of skill with interpersonal relationships and communications, both individually and in group settings

Working conditions: Normal office environment.  Incumbent is expected to work the hours necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
