Ropes & Gray LLP has an exciting opportunity for a full-time temporary Research Library to cover a staff leave. This full-time position will begin at the end of April and run for approximately 16 weeks.

The Research Librarian will provide high-quality, in-depth legal and non-legal research.  This position will support the Legal Research team in responding to requests from the firm’s attorneys and will provide support for the Competitive Intelligence research team in responding to requests from Marketing & Business Development for research, alerts, analytics, insight reports and larger projects as needed. The Research Librarian is expected to have in-depth knowledge and broad expertise in the firm’s areas of practice, and experience with online legal research platforms including Lexis and Westlaw is required. The Research Librarian has a direct reporting line to the Manager of Library Operations and Research and will work closely with the legal research and competitive intelligence research teams.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Provides legal research and reference services to attorneys and staff located in all of the firm’s domestic and international offices. Performs in-depth research, using appropriate sources and analyzing results for presentation to the user.

· Provides support for the Competitive Intelligence research team, conducting research for company profiles, person profiles, lateral partner profiles, industry reports, client and subject-specific alerts.

· Records regular library activity metrics and bills research time.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

· MLS strongly preferred but other graduate degrees that emphasize research and writing, and have relevant content will be considered, such as a J.D. or M.B.A.

· More than 5 years research experience in a law firm or law library

· Advanced online research skills and knowledge of electronic and print law and business resources.

· Demonstrated proficiency in technologies used in a professional services environment.
