Summer Residency Research and Writing Faculty 

This is a co-teaching teaching position for the Whipple Summer Writing Residency. The Summer Faculty member will work in conjunction with the Program Leader and the Senior Faculty member to support 12 exceptional students who will endeavor to write a substantial piece of well-researched narrative nonfiction.  Students are paid a generous stipend for their work. The residency is concentrated during the month of July, but there are a few afternoons in May and August when fellows will meet with faculty.  More information about the fellowship can be found at our website https://bit.ly/whipplefellowship. The majority of the sessions will be held virtually, but 2-3 sessions will be held in-person.

In this role, the following skills/experiences are strongly encouraged:

  • In depth knowledge of interdisciplinary research strategies and information retrieval
  • Background/interest in writing and teaching non-fiction writing.
  • Facility with information literacy, including teaching google, google scholar, and subscription database searching
  • Ability to incorporate public library and archival materials into source searching strategies
  • Interest in/experience with journalism

They will be expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Attending any relevant events associated with the summer residency, as well as, attending the fall presentations. This includes 3-4 hours of afternoon spring workshops
  • Collaborate with the Senior Faculty member to create and implement the relevant curriculum for the summer residency.
  • Support fellows through the proposal writing process in the spring by attending and co-leading workshops, in addition to offering meaningful feedback to student ideas.
  • Attend and co-lead all summer residency activities.
  • Providing timely feedback on all written work done by fellows, including their fall public presentations
  • Coordinating with the Senior faculty member to meet 1:1 with fellows 1X per week for 1 hour, outside of the fellowship workshops.
