Hours: Monday-Thursday: 9:00-4:00
Mass Transit: Accessible via mass transit Commuter train from South Station to Sharon. Walk 15 minutes to the Archives & Research Center.

This internship is an opportunity to learn about cataloging graphic materials, manuscripts, and other archival documents. The intern will be trained by the Photo Archivist and the Digital Archivist to create original descriptive catalog records in PastPerfect, The Trustees collection management software. This person will gain experience with multiple types of metadata and their applications, controlled vocabularies, and local and nationally-recognized cataloging standards. The intern will also learn about usability by helping to prepare records for The Trustees new online collections catalog. Cataloging experience is not required, as this is an entry-level internship, but the intern must have excellent communication skills and a willingness to ask questions.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an Archives, Library Science, or Museum Studies program.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently; ability to take direction; willingness to ask questions.
  • Interest in cataloging.
  • Interest in Massachusetts history and culture preferred.
  • This position requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
