Access Services Librarian, Bay Path University, Longmeadow, MA

 The Access Service Librarian provides energetic, innovative, and user-focused leadership of the Hatch Library circulation, reserves, and interlibrary loan services; trains and supervises the work of library student assistants; and collaborates with other Hatch librarians in delivering reference and instruction services, including collection development.

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee daily operation of Hatch circulation desk, including administration of Bay Path procedures and WMS software.
  • Manage Hatch print reserve services, including maintaining currency of reserve collection and procedures. 
  • Work with Electronic Resources and Reference/Instruction Librarian to develop and maintain electronic reserves collection and procedures.
  • Oversee daily delivery of interlibrary loan (ILL) services to Bay Path students at all levels, faculty, and staff.
  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise the work of library student assistants and maintain regular contact with the Financial Aid Office, which manages BPU’s work-study program.
  • Supervise other Hatch staff providing access services as assigned.
  • Share reference desk coverage with other Hatch librarians, including in-person, phone, and email reference service.
  • Perform information literacy instruction and support in on-ground and online classroom environments in collaboration with other Hatch librarians.
  • Share collection development responsibilities with other Hatch librarians.
  • Help maintain the Hatch Library web site in collaboration with other librarians.
  • Participate in digital initiatives, including social media, archives, and institutional repository services, with other Hatch librarians.
  • Share faculty departmental liaison responsibilities with other Hatch librarians.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Library and Information Services.
  • Attend trainings as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • MLS from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Related experience in an academic library.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in access services in academic libraries.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated understanding of established information literacy standards for academic libraries, including the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education.
  • Successful supervisory and leadership experience, with demonstrated commitment to mentoring, training, and staff development.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated service-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, subordinates, and students.
  • Ability to perform work independently.
  • Experience with WMS and OCLC interlibrary loan software preferred.
  • Ability to follow University policies and procedures.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
