University Archivist, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Chatanooga, TN

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Library invites applications from energetic, creative, and user-focused professional for our University Archivist position. The successful candidate will be responsible for the arrangement, description, and accessibility of university records housed in Special Collections.

The ideal candidate possesses the initiative, flexibility, and creativity to manage projects both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic work environment. The candidate should be able to handle complex, analytical and detailed work while maintaining a positive, change-oriented attitude. Effective writing and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are a must. The candidate should exhibit a strong customer service focus, a passion for the profession, and a deep commitment to the academic community. In addition to the aforementioned attributes, candidate assessment will rely on the strength of the following qualifications:

Required

  • A graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated experience processing archival collections and preparing finding aids in an archival content management system such as The Archivists’ Toolkit, Archon, or ArchivesSpace.
  • Demonstrated experience with archival and library descriptive standards such as DACS and RDA.
  • Demonstrated experience processing archival material.
  • Demonstrated experience managing institutional repositories, including issues, policies, service models, and strategies securing appropriate content.
  • Demonstrated experience with the archival management of electronic records.
  • Demonstrated experience with a variety of digital capture equipment and software, including flatbed scanners, digital cameras, Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, Media Encoder, Audacity, Handbrake, and other tools.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams and in a dynamically changing environment.

Desired

  • Advanced skill in using ArchivesSpace and applying DACS standards to EAD and EAC-CPF records.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital content metadata standards, such as MODS and Dublin Core.
  • Experience with electronic thesis and dissertation workflows in an institutional repository environment.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with library systems and vendors, with a preference given to experience working with Digital Commons.
  • Demonstrated experience with current digital repository platforms such as CONTENTdm, Islandora, DSpace and/or other digital library systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with digital preservation tools, such as Archivematica and Preservica.
  • Experience providing reference service in a research or academic library.
  • Experience supervising archival processing assistants.
  • Experience working with university schools and departments.
