Digital Archivist, Facing History, Brookline, MA

Description:
The Digital Archivist is responsible for migrating content into the Cortex Digital Asset Management System, Facing History and Ourselves’ archive of video, images, and other materials. Working with the Digital Archive and Library Systems Manager, he/she organizes and describes content and helps configure workflows and develop best practices for digital archiving. He/she is part of the Library Staff and works closely with the Video Production team. This position also provides occasional back-up for the circulation duties of Coordinator, Library Services.

Archival work:
· Upload files of various kinds into the DAM, assign technical and descriptive metadata to those files as appropriate
· Work closely with events staff to ensure that video and photos from events are uploaded, organized, tagged, and archived in a timely way
· Work closely with Video Production department to organize and archive digital video and associated files, and migrate to the DAM, applying metadata as appropriate
· Provide archival reference support to staff 
· Assist in training staff in the use of Cortex, and provide ongoing technical support to staff as needed
· Participate in configuration and testing of the DAM, working with outside vendor and consultant, including maintaining communications and notes from phone calls
· Assess, organize and prepare for migration project files of published resource books and study guides from the Publishing Department, including images, releases, pre-publication files, etc. 
· Assess, organize, and prepare for migration other types of files as needed
· Coordinate with various departments and regional offices to help acquire, organize, tag and upload their assets
· Scan archival photographs and upload to the DAM, applying metadata as appropriate
· Perform Quality Control for video files digitized by an outside vendor as needed

Library Work:
Provide occasional back-up for duties of the Coordinator, Library Services, including:
· Check-out and check-in of library materials using Koha ILS
· Assist teachers and staff with routine inquiries
· Assist with the Library email inbox
· Provide technical support to teachers and staff in using the Facing History website and requesting materials online
· Explain borrowing policies to teachers and staff 

Skills/Experience:
· M.S. in Library and Information Science or equivalent degree
· Experience with digital collections
· Technology proficiency, especially with Google apps, spreadsheet management, and troubleshooting technical issues
· Excellent attention to detail
· Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
· Strong interest in education and the mission of Facing History and Ourselves
