Digital Humanities Faculty, King’s College London, London, UK

King’s College London has long been at the forefront of development in the field of Digital Humanities. Formerly called the Centre for Computing in the Humanities (CCH), the Department of Digital Humanities at King’s is the largest and most prestigious department of its kind anywhere and was ranked first in the UK (along with the Department of Culture, Media & Creative Industries) for research power in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF).

The Faculty of Arts & Humanities has identified further development of Digital Humanities as a key strategic priority. To this end, King’s is investing resources to grow the cutting edge research and pedagogy as well as expand the innovative project work that characterises much of the practical activity in the digital humanities. To carry forward this vision the Faculty has also established King’s Digital Lab (KDL) to complement the Department of Digital Humanities led by Dr James Smithies. James joins King’s from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, where he was a Senior Lecturer in Digital Humanities and Associate Director of the CEISMIC Digital Archive.

KDL will provide support for innovative digital collaborations with academic staff across the Faculty and the wider King’s community, and with national and international partners in education, cultural, creative, and digital industries. The KDL team includes a number of highly experienced staff who have transferred to the Lab from the Department of Digital Humanities and they are recruiting for the following new posts:

The Department has also witnessed significant growth in student numbers on its four Masters programmes and the highly successful launch of a BA in Digital Culture in 2015. This year, the Department will launch a new MA in Big Data in Culture and Society to start in September 2016 which seeks to address the theory and practice of big data from an arts and humanities perspective. To support these exciting new changes, the Department is recruiting four new posts:
