AV Preservation Coordinator, George Blood Audio/Video/Film, Philadelphia, PA

Company background:

George Blood Audio/Video/Film is a leading provider of audio and moving image preservation digitization. At our studios in Philadelphia, every month we digitize over 10,000 hours of AV recordings in decaying and obsolete formats to a variety of digital formats, according to the needs of our various clients in libraries, museums, archives, corporations and private collections across the country.

AV Preservation Coordinator Duties:

  • Assess and process client-provided object and metadata inventory, as assigned
  • Oversee the shipping and receiving of original materials and their digital surrogates
  • Perform a brief preservation assessment of original materials upon their arrival at George Blood Audio/Video/Film
  • Monitor and resolve any process failures throughout all stages of workflow
  • Direct staff on monthly maintenance tasks and maintain disaster preparedness documents
  • Track materials as they go through the digitization workflow
  • Coordinate media preparation with production manager
  • Inventory project originals prior to shipping back to the client
  • Manage Safe Sound Archive permanent storage materials
  • Lead creation and testing of internal wiki articles

Education, Experience & Skills:

  • Prior experience with A/V materials required
  • Background in metadata and archival processing and/or cataloging is preferred
  • A master’s degree in library or information science, or comparable work experience, is required
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions required
  • Time-management and stress-management skills required
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to coordinate with staff from all departments required
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. required
  • Effective organizational and spatial reasoning skills required
  • Ability to rapidly change between tasks and environments required
  • Experience with FileMaker Pro preferred, but not required
  • Mac users preferred, but not required

This is a full time position that will initially cover the Registrar’s duties while she is out for maternity leave. It begins immediately in order to overlap with the Registrar for training purposes and will continue after her return and grow in scope. This position reports to Biz Maher Gallo, Manager of AV Preservation.
