Job Description:

Emmanuel College is seeking a Director of Library Services who will be responsible for all operations and budget management of a Library that is open to the College community 106 hours each week, with a high performing team of eight professional full-time librarians, 10 part-time reference librarians, one support person, and 25 library student workers.  The Director hires and oversees the reference staff, which is supervised by the Head of Reference and oversees the library student workers, coordinated by the Administrative Assistant. 

Responsibilities include: long-range planning and assessment of resources and services; negotiating pricing and licensing for electronic resources; overseeing all materials collections; participating in the Information Literacy Program; outreach to faculty, including OER initiatives; working with the Archives Librarian to oversee the Emmanuel College Archives and their digitization; conducting annual staff performance appraisals and annual reporting; applying for grant funding as appropriate; managing a building that houses the College Archives, faculty offices, media classrooms, a computer lab, and the College Development Office.  The Director serves on College committees by invitation and represents the College and the Library on the Boards of Fenway Libraries Online and the Fenway Library Consortium.

Requirements:

We are seeking candidates with the following experience and education:

  • Advanced degree in an academic discipline, PhD preferred
  • MSLIS or equivalent degree in Library and Information Science from an accredited institution
  • Seven or more years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in an academic library
  • Demonstrated experience teaching information literacy and willingness to join a team of teaching librarians
  • Knowledge of licensing and copyright
  • Familiarity with electronic resource management
  • Experience with varied e-book pricing models and collections
  • Experience with data gathering and assessment in decision-making
